How do you play Minecraft with friends on a phone in India?

Updated

Last checked 29 October 2026

To play Minecraft with friends on a phone in India, use Bedrock on Android or iOS and join the same Bedrock-compatible server. In Minecraft, open Play, then Servers, then Add Server. Enter the owner’s address and port. A nearby server may reduce delay, but everyone still needs the correct edition, version and access.

What do you need before you start?

Use Minecraft on Android or iOS and check that your friends are using Bedrock too, unless your chosen server supports both editions. A Java server address alone does not make a server accept phone players. Ask the owner which address is for Bedrock before you try to join. Keep your game up to date and check that the server accepts its version.

You also need a steady connection and permission to play online. For a child’s account, a parent may need to check the Microsoft account’s multiplayer settings. Keep account passwords private. The owner should share the server address and access instructions with the group, rather than asking everyone to share a login.

Can you set up the group from a phone?

You can use a phone browser to compare hosts and read their setup pages. Pick who will own the server before you start: that person should be able to manage access and keep the account safe. Check whether an offer is an ongoing free plan or a short trial. A server that disappears after a trial is not a good home for your only world copy.

  1. Go to shulkerboxes.com and press "Claim yours now".
  2. Fill in "Get your free server": your Minecraft username (optional), a server name (optional) and "How did you find us?" (optional). On Bedrock, put a dot before your gamertag, like .Gamertag.
  3. Press "Create my server".
  4. Sign in. You can continue with Google, or use your email and a password of at least 8 characters. With email, open the link we send you. It signs you in.
  5. The server is ready in about a minute. The card shows "Building your server" until then. Your address shows early, so you can send it while it builds.

Regions: US West, São Paulo, Brazil, and Mumbai, India. The Create form starts on the region nearest you: São Paulo from Brazil or on the Portuguese site, Mumbai from South Asian location or time-zone hints; check it before creating.

Give the server a name the group will recognise. If you already have a world, check the host’s import rules and keep the old copy.

How do you join by address on Android or iOS?

Ask the owner for the Bedrock server name and its port. The name is the address, while the port tells the game which service to use at that address. Copy both exactly from the host’s instructions. Do not swap in a Java address just because it looks similar.

  1. Open Minecraft on your phone and choose Play.
  2. Open the Servers tab, scroll through the list and choose Add Server.
  3. Type a server name you will recognise. This label is just for your list.
  4. Paste the address into the address box. Leave out website parts such as https:// and any slash at the end.
  5. Put the host’s port in the separate port box. Do not paste the whole address and port into both boxes.
  6. Save the entry, select it from your list and join. Follow any access instructions the owner gave you.

Shulkerboxes friends servers accept Java and Bedrock on phones or Windows. Use the Java or Bedrock address on your server card; Bedrock port: 19132. Bedrock cannot join Pixelmon or Cobblemon. Consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Switch) are not supported for now. The owner adds a Bedrock player with a dot before the gamertag, like .Gamertag (spaces become underscores). A console cannot type a server address, and an app that joins by IP number is refused, because one IP number does not say which server to open. Play from a phone, a tablet or Windows instead. Add to Minecraft tries to open the game; if it does not, add the address and port manually.

These steps follow Minecraft’s server joining guide. Menu wording can change with game updates. If Add Server is missing, check the account’s online permissions and that you are using the phone edition, rather than following console instructions.

How do you help friends join the same world?

Send one clear group message with the edition, address and port. Ask everyone to save the same entry. A screenshot can help show which box to use, but copied text is less likely to introduce a typing mistake. Keep private account details out of the screenshot, and avoid posting the group’s address in a public chat.

Have a friend try from a different home or a mobile connection. That checks more than joining from the owner’s own Wi-Fi. If access is refused, ask the owner to check the exact player name and the server’s access rules. Do not keep creating new accounts or changing names while you are trying to find the problem.

What changes when the server is in Mumbai?

Mumbai is a server location, not a different version of Minecraft. The steps in the phone’s server menu stay the same. A nearby host can shorten the route between the group and the world, so actions may feel quicker. It does not make mobile reception stronger or turn a busy Wi-Fi network into a fast one.

Compare connections at your usual play time. Stand near the Wi-Fi router for one test, then try mobile data if your plan allows it. Ask a friend elsewhere in India to test too. If everyone gets a delay together, tell the owner; if only your phone struggles, check its signal and performance first. Avoid trusting one ping screenshot as a promise for every evening.

What should you try if joining fails?

Check the copied address and port first. A missing letter or a Java address in the Bedrock entry can waste a lot of time. Then check the game version and ask whether the server is ready. If the host says it is starting, wait for it to finish before trying again. Repeatedly tapping Join will not make a server start faster.

Read the exact error message. “Outdated” points towards a version mismatch; an access refusal calls for the owner to check the player list or account instructions. A timeout can have several causes, including the network or the server. Change one thing at a time and keep the error text so the owner can help without guessing.

What should your group know about the host?

Shulkerboxes is free Minecraft: Java hosting for friends; no ads, credit card or port forwarding. Friends you add can join any time, even while the owner is offline. A new server is ready in about a minute. Servers run Paper with homes and /tpa built in. Shulkerboxes is funded by licensing de-identified AI datasets made from recorded gameplay. Chat is recorded too, without names, for adults who choose Let's play; stop chat only with /recording chat off. Every player sees a notice before playing. Regions: US West, São Paulo, Brazil, and Mumbai, India. The Create form starts on the region nearest you: São Paulo from Brazil or on the Portuguese site, Mumbai from South Asian location or time-zone hints; check it before creating.

Discuss the host’s terms before moving a shared world. Choose someone to keep backups and decide who can invite more people. Keep the address somewhere the whole group can find it again.

FAQ

Can Android and iPhone players use the same server?

Yes, when both use Bedrock and the server accepts their game versions. Ask the owner for its Bedrock address and port.

Can I paste a Java server address into the phone game?

Only if the host specifically provides Bedrock access at that address. A Java-only server does not accept the phone game. Ask for the Bedrock joining details.

Does a Mumbai server change the joining steps?

No. You still add the address and port in Minecraft. Location affects the network path, not the buttons you press.

Do I need to keep the owner’s phone online?

That depends on where the world runs. A world hosted on a phone needs that device available; a hosted server follows its host’s own start and access rules.
